Brochure mock up

Just a half sized mock up of the brochure the finished one will have more pages. I'm still unsure with the idea of putting inside a pocket or sleev, I'm not sure it needs one.

Think I've cracked this layout business

My third attempt at finding a page layout and I think these look a lot more professional and fit for purpose, These are two examples of two pages spreads I have created. I'm am much happier with these ones and my piers agree. One point that was made is that they do need some more body type on some pages as there isn't a great lot of it so far.

My final marque.

I have created this marque for the new image of the memorial  I think it's very refined, friendly and simple And is fit for purpose.

I chose to only use three colours as I thought this would keep it simple. I pick red as the dominant colour as I wanted to keep it pariot, as red is one of the colours on the american flag but it is also the colour of love and blood and I for it's intended purpose I thought those factors would make it the best colour to use.

Rethinking the logo.

I moved on from the idea of using a image in my marque as I thought there were too many different elements of the accident (The towers, the Savivor tree, The Oak trees and all the lives lost) that I would not able to pick one image to please everyone so I have opted to used a purely text bass design.

I am currently playing around with alignment, hierarchy and colour possibilities.

Page layout redo

I was not happy with my first attempt at page layouts outs. I showed them to my class mates and they told me they thought of a kids books and seed packets which I totally agree with, what was I thinking? After looking at other layout of magazines I have this new layouts That I am currently playing around with but I'm not quite happy with them I feel there is still room for development.

A look into layouts.

I may have over looked the idea of researching exsisting layouts that is way I am now rethinking about possible layout ideas, They have to be balanced with enough imagery and information so it will be important to get the mix right. 

Here are just a few layouts from magazines which I found online that caught my attention.

 

I still like the idea of using dominant "buzz" words and powerful imagery to grab the readers attention.

My brochure's form

Just a simple looking brochure.

The cover will fold over to create the centre page. and on the reverse when unfolded it will show a map.

I want to keep the look of my brochure simple, nothing to flashy. The entire brochure will be in a book format appart from the the centre page which I want to unfold unwards to reveal a side map of the memorial, which I think will be a nice touch although It's not a deffiant feature but it's a good idea in my eyes.

A look into brochure's

I have started to think about how I want the lay out of my Brochure to look. I want it to be simple but something people will remember so that it con-instist with it's purpose of The September 11th Memorial.

I like the silhouette this could be a good idea when used with a powerful or moving image.

This is one of many title pages my brochure will have, I will have a "buzz-word" and a short quote or phrase, on each double page spread coupled with a image and relative type. 

Rough first logo/marque Ideas

I wanted to stay away from the idea of using the actual towers for my logo as i thought it would be cliché, so instead i looked into using the image of the Oak trees that are planted in the surrounding area.

I tried to create a image out of the type which I think I've done but it looks a little off and maybe resembles a nature park.

I wanted to stay away from the idea of using the towers in my logo/marque as i thought they would hold it back and instead focused on the Pear tree which survived (survivor tree) and the 412 Oak trees being planted as i thought they would capture the image of rebirth and moving forwards.

Researching into Already exsisting memorials.

Some existing memorials which use very patriotic imagery to strike a emotional response. i will consider this when thinking of ideas for my own.

Most of the memorials all have the iconic red white and blue flag in them which is a very powerful image to all americans. Using a powerful image like this is something to take into account when i do my own as i dont wont to offend anyone but at the same time uplift them.

I started looking into the idea of using a tree either the Pear tree that survived the attack or one of the Oak trees planted after.

The 412 Oak trees

There are 412 Oak trees planted in the surrounding area of the memorial which might a good point to start a logo/logotype from.

The new memorial for the remembrance of all the people lost to the 9/11 attack.

The plan.

The Branding brief for my second year studying a Foundation degree in graphic design is to develop a concept and visual identity by re-branding the September 11th memorial site. I am required to have the following, a logo/marque/typestyle, a commemorative promotional book/brochure to celebrate the opening of the memorial (Cover and 4 double page spreads) and a Exterior signage.
